Kitchen splashback at the cooktop – what you need to watch out for
Planning to install a self-adhesive splashback in your kitchen and wondering if it's safe behind the cooktop? Find the most important information here.
Plastic and heat – does it work?
Our kitchen splashbacks are made of sturdy plastic that is suitable for everyday kitchen use, but not for direct contact with open flames or extreme heat. Still, you can use the splashback at the cooktop if you follow some rules.
Distance is crucial
For safety, the distance between cooktop and splashback is crucial. Manufacturers like Miele recommend a distance of at least 50 mm from the outer edge of the cooktop for ceramic and induction cooktops. This protects all materials behind the cooktop from heat. Check your cooktop documentation for the exact distance.
Extra protection: glass pane
For extra protection, you can place a glass pane between cooktop and splashback. Glass reflects heat and protects the splashback. This is especially useful when the cooktop is close to the wall.
Checklist before installation
- Check stove type: Ceramic or induction cooktop? Yes. Gas stove only with glass pane
- Read and measure safety distance: Maintain at least 50 mm.
- Consider glass pane: For more security and longevity.
- Careful installation: Keep distance and don't bring materials directly into the heat zone.
